Why was Thomas Paine's essay Common Sense significant to American independence?

"Common Sense" was significant to American Independence because it was the first published article that encouraged the colonists to support the colonies breaking away from England. It impacted the American Revolution because the ideas in it could easily be spread around all over because it was in print. It got many colonists on board with severing ties with England.
