There were many things happening in South America and I don't know if you me,an  any particularly, but some of them are:

-Spanish was introduced and the indigenous languages lost their speakers
-Many indigenous died as a result of the conflict and diseases brought by the Europeans
-The indigenous cultures stopped being in control of the continent, such as the Incas.
